Scriptwriting for Samuel L Jackson & his One For The Boys charity
Scope
Rhys was hired by charity fundariser start-up MyGoodness to support the launch of their new website and digital raffle platform. The team were looking to recreate the same hype as Omaze had across the pond and had partnered with Samuel L Jackson's male cancer charity 'One For The Boys' for the launch. Rhys' main objective was to develop social media content and brand guidelines for the small team. However, when the opportunity came up to record a launch video with the man himself, it fell on Rhys to write the script:
"The opportunity came up whilst I was on holiday in Mallorca. Like any good workaholic I jumped at the chance, despite only having limited wifi in our villa. I marched around my room pretending to be Samuel L Jackon and scribbling down my impression of him. The first draft was done that evening and only required a few tweaks when I got back to London a day or so later. I had previously only written an ad script for Jean-Claude Van Damme (long story – but was based on VitaminWater ads being banned), but that had never seen the light of day due to budget constraints. So the process had been completely new to me, but was very enjoyable. I don't think there can be a stranger feeling than watching Samuel L Jackson pretending to be me pretending to be Samuel L Jackson. I can see how (proper) scriptwriting must be a real thrill!"
